As internet users in the country struggle to have strong and unrestricted internet connections, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made a public appeal to Elon Musk to provide Starlink internet services in Pakistan.
This comes as the government of Pakistan has suspended mobile phone and internet services in certain areas as a precautionary measure to prevent unpleasant occurrences amid the political party's countrywide protest on Sunday (November 24).
Starlink in Pakistan
In a statement posted on the PTI's official website, the party urges Musk to help Pakistanis share their story with the world, claiming that millions of Pakistanis will march for the restoration of democracy, protection of the constitution, and upholding of human rights.
“The illegitimate, authoritarian regime has not only shut down X (formerly Twitter) since February 2024, abducted and tortured social media activists as well as their family members but is now planning on shutting down the internet altogether” the statement reads.
Therefore, PTI believes that Starlink is the solution Pakistan needs, the statement concluded.
Additionally, PTI's social media post displayed two hashtags: “Pakistan under fascism and undeclared Martial law.”
It’s worth noting that SpaceX’s Starlink owns around 60% of the roughly 7,500 satellites orbiting Earth and is a prominent satellite broadband service provider in remote locations. However, it has yet to secure the necessary license to operate in Pakistan.
