In order to improve the enforcement of mandatory third-party motor insurance nationwide, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on Monday established a centralised Motor Insurance Repository.
All motor insurance clients' complete policy and claims data will be stored in this digital system, ensuring secure storage, centralised validation, and restricted data sharing with authorities for verification purposes only.
Within 60 days, all takaful operators and non-life insurers must sign up for the system and integrate their data.
The Central Depository Company (CDC), which will run the repository, requires them to sign a contract.
According to the SECP, this initiative will support public interest protection through increased transparency in the insurance industry, close long-standing compliance gaps, and improve monitoring.
By enabling authorities to effectively verify insurance coverage and fill in major gaps in compliance, the repository is a crucial step towards bolstering Pakistan's mandatory motor third-party insurance enforcement.
