Sony announced a large increase in the suggested retail prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles in the US, effective from Thursday.
The company has unveiled the new pricing structure for its gaming hardware, citing a "challenging economic environment" as the reason for the move.

The announcement states that the standard PlayStation 5 console will now cost $550, $50 more than it did before.
The price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will also increase, going from $450 to $500.
In the meantime, the console's Pro version will now retail for $750 instead of $700.
Interestingly, Sony has stated that the suggested retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories will not change.
In addition, the business has stated that no price changes will be made in markets outside of the US.
This development follows recent price increases for Xbox and Nintendo's hardware, such as the original Nintendo Switch consoles, which saw price increases of between $30 and $50, depending on the model.
Controllers and other accessories were also impacted by the price changes.
Sony's move to increase prices is probably going to have a big impact on customers and the market overall as the gaming industry continues to negotiate the challenges of the present economic climate.
