Sony is reportedly working on a portable PlayStation 6 (PS6 Portable) that could run PS5 games without any special updates or patches. This rumour has excited many gamers, especially fans of handheld consoles.

PlayStation games, particularly on PS5, feature top-notch graphics and silky-smooth gameplay. If the PS6 Portable (PS6P) can play these without developer modifications, it will be one of the most powerful portable gaming devices ever created.

Sony PS6 Portable rumours

According to the rumours, gamers would be able to install and run PS5 games on the PS6P just like they can on a PS5. Notably, the PS6P will allow "shader binary compatibility."

In plain terms, it suggests that the games won't require exclusive updates to function.

However, though it will be quite lovely, there might be one catch. Performance might not be quite as great as on the actual PS5, potentially reducing game speed or visuals somewhat in a few scenarios.

All that being said, the performance will still be superior to Microsoft's Xbox Series S, so the PS6 Portable is a solid choice for gamers who play on the move.

Moreover, the platform will most likely utilise a low-voltage custom AMD chip that is perfect for handheld use.

There has been no official word from Sony as yet, and the PS6 launch may still be a few years off. Additionally, it's not clear if this new portable is identical to the previously rumoured portable PS5 device.
