Sony's PS6 handheld with Nintendo Switch-style docking leaked

Sony is reportedly working on a PlayStation 6 handheld with Nintendo Switch-style television docking capabilities, aiming to provide an advanced gaming experience. 

According to a new leak, the purported PS6 handheld will be powered by an AMD APU, as per “up-to-date” documentations obtained from a source at AMD.

Sony, which currently offers a remote player for the PS5, has previously been reported to be working on a handheld device that can run PlayStation games natively.

Taking to YouTube, a channel “Moore's Law is Dead” shared specific technical specifications for the PS6 handheld, which will reportedly release alongside a traditional, more powerful PlayStation 6 home console.

According to the leak, the PS6 handheld will be dockable with a TV, just like the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The device will reportedly support backwards compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games.

According to the leak, the purported PS6 handheld will run on AMD “Canis” APU, which comes with four Zen 6c cores, and two additional Zen 6 LP cores dedicated to the operating system.

The four Zen 6c cores will reportedly power 16 compute units of RDNA 5 graphics, clocked at 1.2GHz in handheld mode and around 1.65GHz in docked mode. Moreover, the PS6 handheld is expected to come with a 192-bit memory bus with support for up to 48GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

Sporting a MicroSD slot, an M.2 SSD slot, haptics, touchscreen, and dual microphones, the PS6 handheld will provide an advanced gaming experience.

PS6 handheld is rumoured to launch in fall 2027, with manufacturing planned for mid-2027, according to the leak.

The PS6 handheld could be priced between $399 $499 (approximately between Rs1,13,101 to Rs1,41,447), as per Moore’s Law is Dead.
