Tesla has unveiled a new-look Model Y in China, featuring a fresh design and updated features. This marks the first major update to this SUV since its launch in 2020.
This significant update comes as the company seeks to revitalise sales, following a year-over-year decline in deliveries in 2024.
Tesla Model Y features
While the update brings a fresh look and new features, it does not represent a significant leap in the SUV’s range or efficiency.
The new Model Y, codenamed "Juniper," features a sleeker front end with sharper edges, similar to the updated Model 3.
The SUV’s bug-eye headlights have been replaced by a continuous light bar, a design element similar to the Cybertruck and the prototype of the Cybercab.
The vehicle’s rear features a unique "cross-car lamp" that stretches across the hatch, eliminating traditional tail lights.
Inside, the new Model Y includes an ambient light bar, powered rear seats, and a touchscreen display for rear passengers.
Tesla’s new Model Y availability
Tesla's upgraded Model Y is set to begin deliveries in China and select Asian-Pacific markets as early as March.
However, the timeline for Tesla's release of this variant in European and US markets remains uncertain.
Notably, the company has now updated all four of its core EV models, the Model Y, the Model 3, the Model S, and the Model X, with the Cybertruck being the only new product launch since Model Y.
