Like Apple's highest-end iPhone 17 series has a strong upcoming contender, the Galaxy S26 series, the overly priced Vision Pro is soon going to be rivalled by the South Korean tech maker's extended reality (XR) Project Moohan very soon.

Marking Samsung's entry into the fiercely fought realm of virtual and mixed reality headsets, Project Moohan preorders will begin on September 29, 2025, with the initial rollout in South Korea on October 13 and a broader global release on October 21.

At the core of Project Moohan is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, the latest high-performance chipset tailored for virtual and mixed reality devices. The same chipset is also powering Meta’s Quest 3 and Quest 3S, and it will be upgraded specifically for Samsung’s impending Project Moohan headset.

Samsung aims to surpass Apple in terms of visual quality with the Moohan headset, featuring 1.3-inch Micro-OLED panels and a 3552×3840 resolution per eye.

This configuration delivers 13.64 million pixels per eye, around two million more than the Vision Pro and significantly ahead of Meta’s Quest 3 offering 4.56 million per eye. Given these details, sharper details, richer colours, and a more immersive VR experience seem a guarantee.

In terms of pricing, early leaks suggest Project Moohan will be priced between $1,799 and $2,999, positioning it higher than Meta’s Quest 3 ($499) but lower than Apple’s Vision Pro ($3,499).

Project Moohan's launch is expected to decide whether Samsung can establish a sustainable presence in a sector that's witnessing growth in immersive computing, gaming, and professional collaboration.
