
The frenzy around Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2025 (WWDC 2025) now seems to have intensified as the keynote has kicked off and all the enhancement that have been in the pipeline are emerging to the scene, including the new iOS 19 and iPadOS iterations.
During the keynote opening remarks, Craig Federighi, the senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, announced that the new iPhone software will be named iOS 26.
The iOS 26 announcement was followed by Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of human interface design, demonstrating how the new iPhone operating system will feature an interface called “Liquid Glass.”
This design looks like glass but has a smooth, flowing quality. According to Dye, Liquid Glass makes navigation and controls clearer and easier to use.
WWDC 2025 keynote announcements: New Games app unveiled
During the WWDC 2025 livestream, Apple has also disclosed a new app called Games, which collects all the games users download into one list which can be easily accessed.
The Games app is also equipped with social features, allowing users to see what their friends are playing, challenge friends, and check high-score leaderboards.

Federighi said Apple will release iOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, macOS 26, visionOS 26, and iPadOS 26 in order to better match the year when these software updates will be available.
This will unify the names of Apple’s operating systems, which have been different for a long time.
It's worth keeping in mind that as of now, Apple offers iOS 18 for iPhones, iPadOS 18 for iPads, watchOS 11 for Apple Watches, tvOS 18 for Apple TV, macOS Sequoia for Mac computers, and visionOS 2 for the Vision Pro headset.

Apple is also introducing new updates to CarPlay, including an improved widget interface to bring a new design that lets users view directions and other features even during an incoming call.
WWDC 2025 event highlights: new macOS update is called macOS Tahoe
As announced at the WWDC 2025 live event by Federighi, the next macOS update will be called macOS Tahoe, named after the famous lake and community connecting northern California and Nevada.
Since it's said to be only a few hours' away from Apple’s headquarters in the Bay Area, it’s a befitting addition to the list of macOS update names.
Apple Music getting lyrics translation, more
Apple Music is also among the recipient of a deluge of new features, gaining some new features, with the most notable being lyrics translation. This feature will help users around the world sing along, even if they don’t speak the same language.
Apple also lifted the veil off a new DJ-like feature called Automix, which uses AI to keep up with users’ music preferences. Users can also now pin their favourite albums, playlists, and artists to their library for easy access.
Apple Intelligence update announced with Genmojis, new features at WWDC 2025
Apple Intelligence, Apple's in-house suite of AI features, is now capable of creating new emojis called Genmojis. The AI tool does it by combining existing ones based on user descriptions.
With Apple Intelligence Genmojis, users can customise expressions and backgrounds with the help of ChatGPT.
