In a bid to facilitate tourists and curb smog and pollution in the federal capital, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has received a batch of 146 electric buses (e-buses) out of 160 from China.
With the remaining 14 e-buses reportedly dispatched from China for Islamabad, the development comes on the heels of the Punjab government disclosing plans to introduce electric buses in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur to improve public transport and tackle pollution, traffic congestion, and smog.
Citing CDA officials, Business Recorder reported that the zero-point charging station's construction has begun.
The charging station's construction was previously derailed owing to the two consecutive cancellations of the tender for building charging stations at reduced rates.
The officials added that the establishment of charging stations and parking lots will be the priority for new routes.
In the first phase prior to cruising down these buses in Islamabad, CDA claimed that offices would be set up in containers and operations would be initiated.
After one month needed to train drivers on the new routes, these e-buses will be operated on Park Road, B-7, PWD, I-8 and I-9 routes, as the authority has secured the approval to operate buses on these four routes.
