Owing to high costs and other complexities, Apple is planning to shut down a project to design and develop its own smartwatch displays.
Bloomberg, citing people familiar with this matter, said that the Cupertino-based tech giant is reorganizing teams that handled display engineering and eliminating several dozen roles in the United States and Asia.
It should be noted that the display project was part of a broader push by Apple to design more of its technology in-house.
The news comes days after Apple decided to wind up its self-driving car project. In both cases, Apple is giving at least some affected employees the opportunity to find other roles within the company. If they can't get new jobs — a likely scenario for some of them — the workers will be laid off and provided severance.
