OpenAI is making ChatGPT easier to use on Android, especially for people who return to the same conversations regularly. A new feature currently being tested will allow users to pin favourite ChatGPT chats directly to their phone’s home screen, offering quicker access with fewer taps.

Many ChatGPT users also happen to depend on the same conversation to work on projects, do repeat work, and perform other tasks on a regular, daily basis.

Users are already able to pin their conversations within the app or on the web, but to open them, they still have to open the app and go through their chat history.

According to rumours, this update brings home screen shortcuts, just like the ability to allow consumers to save particular websites on the phone launcher, as practised by all web browsers.

With the upgrade, consumers can access a particular ChatGPT conversation only by tapping once after turning on the shortcut.

The feature was discovered in ChatGPT version 1.2025.350 of the ChatGPT Android app. There is a new "Add to home screen" option under the three-dot menu in a specific chat. This will put a shortcut on the home screen and start the selected chat just like a normal app icon would.

To date, the shortcut is automatically renamed based on the chat title, and users cannot change its name. There also does not seem to be any restriction on the number of shortcuts that can be placed in the home screen related to chats.

While the function has not been rolled out to all users, tests show it operates smoothly. This update comes as part of larger tests to minimise friction and make more frequently used chats more accessible.
