Popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT has rolled out a new group chat feature that allows users to collaborate more effectively with friends, family, or colleagues in a shared chat alongside ChatGPT.
OpenAI's primary objective for ChatGPT's group chat feature is said to facilitate planning, idea sharing, and teamwork for tasks such as organising events or working on projects.
The distinct property that sets ChatGPT's group chats apart from private conversations is that it ensures that personal memories remain confidential and are not shared in group settings.
Users can invite up to twenty participants in a group simply with a link, and upon joining, each participant would need to set up a profile with their name and photo for better interaction.
The feature supports a range of collaborative activities, such as comparing travel destinations, brainstorming creative ideas, or conducting research together, all of which will be a great addition to ChatGPT's ability to summarise information and organise content as needed.
Prioritising privacy, the platform has limited exposure to sensitive content for younger users, particularly those under 18. Moreover, parents also have the option to disable group chats through parental controls.
The currently-pilot release of ChatGPT's group chats will eventually lead to its broader availability, contingent upon how widely users embrace it, with ChatGPT aiming to enhance shared conversations to make them more helpful and creative for everyone.
