A little over two months after it was pulled the plug on over data protection concerns, globally acclaimed Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot DeepSeek is now once again available for download in South Korea.

DeepSeek in South Korea was removed from popular app marketplaces like Apple's App Store and Google Play Store in February this year. Its revival in the country is said to be allowed after it made significant changes to its privacy practices.

The suspension came after South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) found DeepSeek transferring user data and prompts abroad without permission after its launch in January.

DeepSeek stated that it now processes personal information in accordance with South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act. The revised DeepSeek policy gives users the option to refuse the transfer of their personal data to various companies in China and the US.

PIPC noted that the Chinese AI platform voluntarily made the app available on app stores after abiding by some of the recommendations made by authorities.

Although the DeepSeek app can now be downloaded in South Korea, the authority will continue to monitor its services, ensure stronger data protection for South Korean users.
