The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday announced a 15-day extension in the deadline for filing the income tax return for the fiscal year 2024-25, setting October 31 as the last date to file returns.
Adhering to the requests for an extension, the revenue board announced the delay in the deadline just hours before it was set to expire.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, the Federal Board of Revenue if pleased to communicate that the date of filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025, for the persons who were required to file their returns by September 30, 2025 and was extended up to October 15, 2025 vide Circular no. 4 of 2025-26 IR-Operations dated September 30, 2025, is further extended to October 31, 2025, in view of the requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations,” the notification read.
Earlier today, the Pakistan Tax Bar Association President Anwar Kashif Mumtaz urged the FBR to extend the deadline for submitting returns. The association said that the extension will help increase the tax net.
The FBR first extended the deadline by 15 days on September 30, setting October 15 as the last date of submission. The previous extension was also approved following requests from various trade bodies, taxpayers, and tax bar associations.
It should be noted that the tax body faced a shortfall of Rs1.2 trillion against its original revenue target of Rs12.97 trillion for FY25, despite introducing Rs1.3 trillion in new taxes.
