Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, is now accessible on the web without requiring a Google account. Previously, users had to sign in, but now anyone can visit gemini.google.com in Incognito Mode or similar private browsing settings and start chatting instantly.

This change makes it easier for users to experience Gemini without linking their personal data. It provides a more open and accessible AI interaction, similar to how search engines function, allowing quick access to AI-generated responses without authentication barriers.

What’s new in Google Gemini?

When visiting the website without logging in, users are taken directly to the chat interface. Prompts can be entered, and responses received without signing in. Some suggested prompts include “Save me time,” “Write an essay on the history of chess,” “Help me plan,” and “Give me study tips.”

For signed-out users, the usual “Hello, [name]” greeting changes to “Meet Gemini, your personal AI assistant.” This aligns with how Google Search works, making it easier for new users to try the chatbot.

However, access to advanced features like Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental), Deep Research, and Personalisation (experimental) requires signing in. Without an account, users can only access Gemini 2.0 Flash, which offers basic AI responses.

Limitations for signed-out users

Some features still need an account. To upload files, view past chats, or use advanced models, signing in is necessary. Google encourages users to log in, as seen in multiple sign-in buttons across the page.

While the web version of Gemini works without an account, the Gemini app on Android still requires users to be logged in.
