The International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024, one of Pakistan's major defence events, began at Karachi’s Expo Centre on Tuesday. The four-day event highlights Pakistan’s advancements in defence technology and promotes international collaboration.

Over 350 delegations from 55 countries, including the United States (US), China, Turkiye, Russia, and Iran, are attending this year's event.

Over 560 companies are presenting their military products, with Turkiye and China leading in the queue. The showstoppers are Pakistan's locally produced Haider Main Battle Tank, the Shahpar III drone, and the latest Super Mushshak Aircraft. The Haider tank, developed in collaboration with China, was first announced earlier this year.

IDEAS 2024, for the first time, would also host a startup pavilion, showcasing artificial intelligence (AI) and defence innovations from various institutions such as National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), PMSTAP, and the Pakistan Navy.

A seminar on Pakistan's defence production would be organised to discuss challenges and opportunities in this industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif highlighted Pakistan's ever-growing role in the global defence market. He mentioned that IDEAS serves as the platform for international partnerships, increases exports, and brings peace and stability.

Karachi authorities have forbidden public gatherings and closed private schools near the venue of the exhibition up to November 24 to maintain security. Section 144 has been imposed, and measures are being adopted strictly there to keep law and order during the exhibition.
