Flight operations at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport have been temporarily suspended until midnight Thursday, as confirmed by a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority.
The suspension impacts all incoming and outgoing flights and is being implemented as part of operational adjustments in light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Karachi airport suspends flights
The NOTAM, issued early on Thursday, says the airport will continue to be non-operational until 12:00am.
Meanwhile, although presented initially as an operational step, officials made it clear that the closure follows increased instability in the region after a series of alleged drone intrusions by India.
The authorities have promised that further information regarding the resumption of services and the reasons behind it will be revealed as the situation unfolds.
All the airlines operating at Karachi airport have been informed, and requisite arrangements are being made to accommodate affected passengers.
Authorities went on to say that further updates on the resumption of services would be given as events unfold.
Furthermore, the suspension has already led to delays and diversions, with some local and international flights rerouted to other airports.
Travellers who plan to fly through Jinnah International Airport today are advised to check the latest status with their airlines before coming to the airport.
