In a bid to compete with rival juggernauts in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft Copliot, Meta is planning to release a dedicated app for its AI assistant, Meta AI.

According to a report from CNBC, the Facebook parent might launch a standalone Meta AI app in the second quarter of this year, during the company’s next fiscal quarter, which will start from April to June 2025.

Currently, Meta AI is only available to users through a website and Meta-owned applications, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Similar to its rival chatbots, Meta AI can answer questions, generate images, and edit photos. It has also gained the ability to utilise its memory to provide users with better recommendations.

With over 700 million active monthly users, Meta has also planned to test a paid subscription service for Meta AI.

The AI company has intensified its efforts to compete in the AI industry, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing plans to invest up to $65 billion to expand the company's AI ambitions.

As part of its strategy to become a leading player in the AI market, Meta has also planned to host its first-ever AI-focused developer conference, LlamaCon, on April 29, 2025.
