Meta has unveiled a new virtual reality headset named Meta Quest 3S at the Meta Connect 2024 held at Menlo Park, California. The mixed-reality headset is a lower-cost variant of the Meta Quest 3 and a suitable entry-level replacement for the outdated Meta Quest 2.
Meta Quest 3S features
The latest Meta Quest 3S headset uses Qualcomm Snapdragon XR 2 Gen 2 chipset and houses 8GB of RAM. The VR headset has double the graphical performance of the Meta Quest 2 and Fresnel lenses with a lower resolution and narrower field of view (90-96 degrees), similar to those in the Quest 2.

Meta Quest 3S is quite thicker than the Quest; however, according to the company, the headset is still 20% slimmer than Quest 2 with around 514 grams of weight. The device uses the same “Touch Plus” and supports full-colour passthrough for mixed-reality apps like Quest 2.
Meta Quest 3S battery life is rated at 2.5 hours on average, which is slightly more than the 2.2 hours available for the Quest 3. It includes some of the best Meta Quest 3 games and also features the new Batman’s Arkham Shadow game.

Meta Quest 3S headset 128GB variant is available for $299 while the larger version, 256GB model costs $399.

The 256GB model of Meta Quest 3S with double the storage capacity as of the base model is available for $399 and a three-month subscription to Meta Quest Plus.
Meta Quest 3S preorders at Walmart
Meta Quest 3 preorders are now live at Walmart. The retail store is giving the base model and the larger headset with Batman: Arkham Shadow for free. The device will be available by October 15.
