Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced massive enhancements for his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), focused on deep artificial intelligence (AI) integration to transform how users discover and engage with content.

Grok's new AI smarts reflect Musk's ambitions to evolve X from a simple feed-based platform into a powerful, AI-driven discovery tool.

A key feature of these changes is the introduction of semantic search, allowing users to utilise natural language or voice commands to query the platform, retrieving relevant posts, images, and videos. This innovation reduces reliance on traditional keywords and hashtags, enabling the platform to better understand user intent.

Additionally, Musk revealed that the next phase of Grok will play a more integral role in the platform’s infrastructure. The Grokipedia project, unveiled recently, hints at an enhanced “Grok-powered algorithm” to improve the content recommendation engine, addressing previous criticisms regarding transparency and content quality.

By embedding Grok and implementing semantic search, X aims to shift strategically, positioning itself as a hybrid search, discovery, and AI platform. This aligns with Musk’s vision of creating an “everything app” that merges real-time social interaction with advanced AI features.

However, the timeline for these enhancements remains unclear, and building an effective semantic search system poses significant technical challenges.

Previous iterations of Grok have faced criticism for generating controversial content, raising concerns about safety and unintended consequences.
