
Xiaomi has officially announced the latest imaging technology, which is known as the Xiaomi Modular Optical System. Currently in the concept stage, this technology is not yet available to the public. In a teaser video, a modified Xiaomi 15 device is showcased with a MagSafe-like magnetic ring on the rear.
The device includes a customised external lens that lets users capture DSLR-level images.
Xiaomi Modular Optical System released
In terms of design, the company allows external camera lenses to be seamlessly incorporated along with the device's hardware. It enables users to edit and share the photos clicked via an external lens directly. It is integrated with the company’s advanced LaserLink technology, ensuring fast and efficient communication between the phone and the external lens.
The Xiaomi Modular Optical System supports a 100MP Micro Four Thirds (M4/3) sensor, coupled with a 35mm all-aspherical glass lens with a larger aperture. It is said to deliver an improved low-light imaging performance and enhanced photographic precision.
Xiaomi 15 series release and Ultra Photography Kit launched
The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra are set to release in India on March 11 at 12pm IST. The recently launched handsets are powered by flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets, carrying Leica-branded cameras. They both run on Android 15-based HyperOS 2 and support 90W wired and 80W wireless fast charging.
Moreover, the company launched the Xiaomi 15 Ultra Photography Kit Legend Edition at MWC 2025 featuring a USB Type-C camera grip and more.
