Netflix has announced that it will purchase Warner Bros. Discovery, a significant entertainment company, for about $82.7 billion.
The cash- and stock-based arrangement is anticipated to be finalised by late 2026 with regulatory approval.
Netflix will gain control over Warner Bros.' TV shows, movie studios, and HBO Max, increasing its market share in the international entertainment sector with the purchase.
Netflix wants to increase its negotiating leverage with industry unions and theatre chains, with more than 300 million users.
The company executives told investors, "We have to keep moving forward and investing in stories audiences care about."
Famous shows including "Casablanca", "The Wizard of Oz", "The Shining", "Friends", and "Game of Thrones" are part of the agreement.
Netflix will pay Warner Bros. Discovery a $5.8 billion break fee if the merger is denied due to antitrust concerns.
This purchase represents a dramatic change in the entertainment sector, with tech-driven platforms controlling the market.
It is anticipated that the acquisition will improve Netflix's selection of content and increase its worldwide presence.
