Nvidia is set to reveal details about its latest AI chip, Rubin, at its annual developer conference on Tuesday. The company, known for powering AI tools like ChatGPT, has seen its stock soar in recent years.

However, Nvidia is now facing challenges, including a delay in its Blackwell chip and rising competition from AI startups.

Nvidia’s Rubin AI chip

The Rubin chip will include a GPU (graphics processing unit), CPU (central processing unit), and networking chips designed for large data centres that train AI models. Nvidia plans to release these chips this year, with mass production starting in 2025.

Notably, the company aims to launch a new AI chip every year, but the current Blackwell chip faced setbacks due to a design flaw that delayed its production.

Meanwhile, AI startups claim they can build powerful chatbots with fewer Nvidia chips, challenging the company’s dominance. Chinese startup DeepSeek recently stated that its chatbot needs much less computing power than previous models. This led to a drop in Nvidia’s stock, raising concerns about the company’s future AI chip sales.

However, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes new AI models require faster computing speeds, making Nvidia’s chips even more essential. "AI now thinks faster than humans can read, and our chips are the fastest at generating AI responses," Huang said.
