As has been crystal clear, the AI space is witnessing a boom as newcomer contenders are venturing out to dethrone AI giants like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

Joining the bandwagon, a relatively less popular Japanese AI startup named Sakana AI has secured $100 million during round A of seed funding to further lead the progress of its development.

Although it's merely a year-old company, it has captured the eyes of tech giants like New Enterprise Associates, Khosla Ventures and Lux Capital, with participation from Nvidia.

A helping hand from the world-class chipmaker Nvidia means the startup is backed by an efficient juggernaut which recently dethroned Apple in terms of revenue generation.

The AI startup said all of the capital accumulated during funding will be utilised alongside Nvidia's infrastructure to augment its technologies and become a world-class AI research lab which it claims will outshine frontier labs of OpenAI and Anthropic.

Sakana AI is progressing at a much greater pace than most rivals in this domain and has plans to “push the frontiers of what’s possible with AI” in future, said the co-founder Sakana AI and former Google researcher David Ha in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
