Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Sunday announced that different major aviation projects are moving forward nationwide to expand airport capacity and improve passenger services.
PAA, in a statement, said that the terminal expansion at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore is scheduled to be completed by September 2026, providing travellers with a better facility at airport, aligning with the international standards.
Meanwhile, the runway upgrade at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is expected to finish by January 2026.
The authority will introduce new RNP-AR flight procedures at Skardu, Gilgit, and Chitral airports by June 2026. Officials believes that the system will reduce weather-related delays and cancellations in Pakistan's northern region.
"These upgradation projects aim to modernise Pakistan's aviation network, improve reliability, and offer passengers better facilities and more efficient services," said the aviation authority.
PAA also plans for new greenfield airports in Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur, and Faisalabad. At Karachi airport, authorites have approved the location for new 'Air Traffic Control Tower', a rescue, and fire station, with an aim to improve operational safety and traffic management.
