Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stated that Pakistan will add new security elements to passports with an aim at preventing counterfeiting and ensure document integrity.
The minister provided the update during a visit to Beijing's Public Security Passport Bureau, where he examined China's modern passport issuing and immigration control systems.
Upon his arrival, Director General Sun Yu briefed him on operating procedures. During his visit, Naqvi saw the major departments of the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau.
He saw the entire passport process, from application submission and biometric verification to printing and final issuance. Chinese officials also spoke about their immigration policy and border management techniques.
The interior minister commended China's system for its speed, efficiency, and technological capabilities. According to Naqvi: "Pakistan has already established a safe passport and immigration system. However, authorities are currently modernising it to meet international requirements."
The minister noted that Pakistan's entry-exit control system is being created along the same lines as the Beijing model.
To prevent misuse, the updated system will rely primarily on technology, better security features, and faster processing.
"This is part of Pakistan's broader plan to modernise immigration infrastructure, improve document security, and curb passport fraud," said Naqvi, adding that the programme attempts to strengthen Pakistan's passport system and align it with global norms.
