To speed up the adoption of AI in Pakistan, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has unveiled a six-pillar framework.
This strategic initiative emphasises innovation, infrastructure, security, transformation, readiness, and international cooperation to improve the nation's AI ecosystem.
Pakistan's six-pillar framework for AI adoption
The framework's major pillars are AI Innovation Ecosystem, Awareness and Readiness, Secure AI Ecosystem, Transformation and Evolution, AI Infrastructure, and International Partnerships and Collaborations.
These pillars seek to foster international collaboration, guarantee ethical AI practices, provide the talent pool with the skills it needs, and stimulate innovation.
The framework's goals are to monitor the expansion of AI startups and SMEs, boost investments in AI ventures, increase research and intellectual property related to AI, decrease cyber threats, and encourage the adoption of AI in particular industries.
Additionally, the framework seeks to build local large language models, establish AI hubs, and increase the nation's AI computing capacity.
The framework's anticipated results include launching 50,000 civic projects, creating 1,000 domestic AI products in five years, and training one million AI professionals by 2030.
In addition, the government intends to fund 1,000 research projects, give out 3,000 scholarships annually, and guarantee inclusive education and funding for women and people with disabilities.
Pakistan hopes to stay up to date with global AI developments and improve its competitiveness by pursuing international alliances, cooperative research projects, and involvement in international AI forums.
This bold plan is a big step towards embracing technology's future and advancing Pakistan's socioeconomic growth.
With an emphasis on security, innovation, and preparedness, Pakistan is well-positioned to have a significant influence in the AI space.
