Much like established economies leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for the betterment of the economy, the full implementation of Pakistan's National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy is also believed to enhance the country's GDP by 7-12% and generate up to one million jobs by 2030.
These remarks were given by AI Policy Committee Chairperson Dr Anil Salman while speaking at a seminar hosted by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE).
He described the policy as bold and transformative, a catalyst to achieve inclusivity in economic, social, and technological spheres.
The seminar featured notable speakers, including Dr Najibullah from the Planning Commission, Suniya Shahid, the CEO of Techvention Ltd., and Dr Naveed Iftikhar, the CEO of Atomcamp, who participated virtually.
The policy was designed after extensive consultations with both local and international stakeholders, including UNESCO and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Dr Salman explained.
While highlighting the need for a robust financial ecosystem, Dr Najibullah announced a Public Venture Capital Fund of Rs2 billion to support startups.
He also pointed out challenges in data infrastructure and cybersecurity while stressing opportunities in agriculture, health, and education.
The importance of AI in healthcare and advocacy for ethical auditing and dedicated funds for women-led startups was also emphasised during the event.
