The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken a major step towards regulating VPN services by issuing Class Licenses to two entities.

The move is intended to enable businesses to utilise VPNs for legitimate purposes while maintaining data protection, privacy, and compliance with Pakistani regulations.

The PTA’s VPN licensing initiative represents an important step towards finding the right balance between the increasing demand for secure online connections and ensuring greater transparency and accountability in Pakistan’s digital world.

PTA Class License for VPN providers

All the VPN service providers will be capable of providing services under the Class License for Providing Data Services in Pakistan.

It is according to Pakistan's latest attempts at trying to regulate internet communication and prevent the misuse of VPN services that have been in the middle of a hot issue of debate lately.

The government has in the past raised concerns about the unregulated use of VPNs, fearing that they might be used for illegal activities, including evading security and gaining access to illicit content.

With these new policies, however, companies can now legally employ the use of VPNs while ensuring they comply with the local laws.

The PTA has opened the door for other VPN providers to apply for a Class License through its official eServices portal. By visiting https://eservices.pta.gov.pk, VPN service providers can apply online to receive a license, allowing them to operate transparently and securely in the country.
