The Punjab government has announced special arrangements for Basant celebrations in Lahore, including free public transport for residents during the festival days.
An important meeting regarding Basant was held at Lahore for reviewing the safety measures and administrative preparations regarding the thirteenth of March.
The officials reviewed the necessary steps to be taken so as to facilitate the citizens while ensuring safety in Basant celebrations.
According to the decision, buses and rickshaws will ply free of cost across Lahore on February 6, 7, and 8. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has said the facility of free transport will be provided for three days so that people can move about easily during Basant festivities.
She further said that the manufacture relating to kites and kite strings would be allowed from December 30, 2026. The initiative aims to support businesses linked to the festival while ensuring regulated production.
Bukhari added, "The Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has directed the formation of a sub-committee, which shall prepare a comprehensive plan regarding Basant arrangements. The committee will give detailed recommendations regarding safety, regulation, and event management, covering all aspects."
The Punjab government says the measures are part of its effort to revive Basant in a controlled and safer manner, balancing public enjoyment with strict oversight.
