Part of the Punjab government's push for the normalisation of electric bus services, the Punjab government has confirmed 10 new routes for the 80 electric buses (e-buses) announced for Rawalpindi last week that are slated to hit the roads by mid-October.
The introduction of e-buses is being carried out across Punjab in a bid to ensure a cleaner public transport system and less pollution and urban traffic in the region.
Covering a total distance of 86 kilometres, the routes for Rawalpindi e-buses service were confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema.
The electric public bus service will connect with Islamabad’s transport network, allowing hassle-free intercity travel for the residents of both cities.
For the project, a new bus depot is currently being established on 28 kanals of land along Peshawar Road, which will accommodate up to 100 buses.
The new e-bus service will provide modern transport to areas currently underserved by the Metro Bus system.
