Roblox, the popular gaming platform, has announced significant updates to its safety policy, aiming to better protect children under 13 from potential harm.

The changes address long-standing concerns of lacking strict safety protocols for children that expose them to explicit and harmful content on the platform.

Roblox safety policy update

As per the latest Roblox safety policy, users under 13 will no longer be able to access unrated experiences.

“By default, kids aged 12 years old and younger will no longer be able to play, search, and discover unrated experiences,” the policy noted.

The update also prevents kids under 13 from accessing social hangouts and other experiences such as chatting with other players and interactive experiences where users can draw and write.

Roblox has also asked creators to fill out a questionnaire to make their experience available to this age group. This ensures that experiences meet either "All Ages" or "9+" recommendations, which allow for mild violence, crude humour, and unrealistic heavy blood but prohibit gambling content.

However, the gaming platform has identified suitable experiences for this age group, including role-playing experiences, interacting with items, and engaging with 3D assets approved by Roblox moderation.

The changes will be implemented in phases, with the restrictions on social hangouts and free-form 2D user creation starting November 18 and questionnaire requirements beginning December 3.

Roblox will enforce these new requirements starting next year, demonstrating its commitment to creating a safer environment for its young users.
