Samsung’s newly released foldables—Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and budget Flip 7 FE—have only been in the hands of consumers for a handful of days but are already receiving their first software updates.
All three foldable phones were announced, opened for pre-orders, and launched in the last month and represent Samsung’s latest round of attempts to push foldables into the mainstream.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 builds on Samsung’s book-style foldable design with remarkable refinements to the hinge, reduced bezels, and greatly improved durability. The Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE focus on compact and convenient clamshell-style foldable phones.
With the launch fresh on the heels of the new foldable phones, firmware versions F966BXXS2AYGG (Z Fold 7), F766BXXS2AYGD (Flip 7), and F761BXXS2AYG5 (Flip 7 FE) were pushed to consumers relatively quickly, according to a report from SamMobile.
The updates are small but important, mainly because many updates are security focused. Samsung hasn’t released a complete changelog; however, post-launch patches are normal.
Notably, the devices are in customer hands, companies like Samsung can quickly identify security gaps and turn patches around quickly to prevent any issues from becoming a larger problem.
Users shouldn’t expect new features or big design tweaks from this update. Samsung has previously confirmed that major One UI feature upgrades typically debut with its Galaxy S series flagships, even though foldables like the Fold and Flip series are now the first devices to ship with upcoming One UI builds.
