Pakistan has decided to launch newly-designed currency notes, following the approval from the federal cabinet. The decision was made, during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the Ministry of Finance briefed on the proposed design of banknotes, issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Officials told that the new currency notes are being designed in line with the modern international standards, with the services of global experts engaged for the process.
New currency notes will include Rs100, Rs500, Rs1,000 and Rs5,000 denomination. The new currency notes will feature improved security threads to enhance protection against counterfeiting.
The designs will also reflect Pakistan’s regional and geographical diversity, as well as its historical landmarks.
Launch date of new currency notes in Pakistan
Speaking to Geo News, SBP Deputy Governor Saleemullah said the new currency notes are expected to be issued between November and December 2026.
Themes such as women's contribution to national development and climate change will be integrated into the artwork. The federal cabinet approved the formation of special committee to review the currency notes before their official launch.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has also considered a draft of the Private Hajj Policy 2027-30, which relates to third-party registration and scrutiny of private Hajj operator companies.
In light of feedback from cabinet members, the premier directed that the draft policy be referred back to the Hajj Policy Committee for further review.
