Google has announced a major step towards offering users AirDrop support in Quick Share, competing with Apple in the global race for technology.

This functionality is currently limited to the Pixel 10 series — which includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold — while this feature is expected to arrive in Snapdragon-powered smartphones in the near future.

It allows cross-platform sharing between Android and iOS devices, letting Android users share different files, images, videos, and more wirelessly with iPhone users, using both Quick Share and AirDrop.

How does Quick Share work?

According to Alphabet-owned tech giant, Quick Share works with the 'Everyone' for 10 minutes mode in AirDrop. With these settings turned on, Pixel users can open the content they want to share and tap Share > Quick Share to transfer files.

Google stated that this process does not use a workaround but a peer-to-peer connection, which means that the data is not routed through a server, and the shared content is never logged.

Quick Share cross-platform sharing is said to have built-in security and privacy safeguards and is independently tested.

It should be noted that Google has worked with third-party penetration testing firm NetSPI, and the assessment concluded that the interoperability between Quick Share and AirDrop is secure, 'notably stronger' than other industry implementations and does not leak any data.
