Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a complete suspension of gas supply in Karachi for 48 hours, starting today due to a severe shortage in its system.

Gas loadshedding began today (Sunday, January 4), 8am, and will continue until 8am tomorrow (Monday, January 5), said a SSGC spokesperson, adding that the company is facing an acute shortfall of gas, which has badly impacted overall availability of gas for Karachiites.

It should be noted that during this period gas supply for all industrial units, including power generation plants, will remain suspened.

The spokesperson said that low line-pack and reduced pressure in the system have already been causing problems for consumers, emphasising over the need to move toward a temporary gas suspension.

When will gas supply be restored in Karachi?

SSGC has advised consumers for cooperation and patience, adding that supply will be restored as soon as the gas supply stabilises and system pressure returns to safe levels.

Earlier, the government lifted the ban on new gas connections across Pakistan, as a significant move to facilitate citizens. Consumers can now easily apply for a new gas connection through the official websites and mobile applications of the Sui companies.
