Meta’s Threads is introducing a significant update to its search functionality, enabling users to filter search results by specific profiles and date ranges.

Currently, Threads' search feature is limited to basic keyword searches, allowing users to find trending topics, posts, or accounts, with sorting options, including "Top" and "Recent."

However, the updated search feature on Threads adds a settings icon in the search bar, providing users with "After date," "Before date," and "From profile" options.

Threads competes with X and Bluesky

Meta has been enhancing its app in a bid to stay competitive with its rivals such as X (formerly Twitter); however, this update brings Threads closer to Bluesky, another microblogging social networking service, which offers more advanced search capabilities.

The introduction of Threads enhanced search feature follows Instagram head Adam Mosseri's announcement that Meta would test these filters and other improvements to Threads' search tools.

This new feature will be rolled out globally over the next few weeks.

It is worth mentioning that in recent weeks, Meta has accelerated the rollout of long-requested updates to Threads, in response to the growing popularity of Bluesky. These updates include custom following feeds, adjustments to the “For You” feed algorithm, and more.
