TikTok has announced a significant upgrade which allows users to create AI simulations of their voice within the app.
With Text-to-speech technology becoming increasingly popular in recent years, TikTok will be the first social media platform to offer this feature for its videos.
The popular short-video hosting platform now enables users to voice over their TikTok clips with their digital voice, something new compared to generic voice options currently available.

Here's how it works
Social media expert Jonah Manzano shared the images and revealed that TikTok users can now select “Create Your Own AI Voice” from the video voice-over menu.
A user has to record himself’s voice reading a sentence. The platform will create a synthesised voice that sounds like their own and if the user is not satisfied with the result, they can repeat the process.
In this way, users can generate their AI voice and apply it to future clips, reducing the need to use their vocals.
The feature also allows the translation of the custom voice-over into other languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese, and Indonesian.
The new feature is a part of ByteDance’s research into AI voice replication. It introduced a new AI model “StreamVoice” in January capable of replicating a person’s voice in real-time raising concerns about potentially creating deepfakes.
However, despite these concerns, Meta is also working on similar AI voice technologies, enabling creators to develop AI chatbots.
TikTok ensured users that their AI voice will remain private and they can delete it at any time.
