WhatsApp is working on a new feature allowing users to add music to their status updates, making the chat application’s interface more engaging and interactive.
Spotted in the latest WhatsApp Android beta 2.25.2.5 update on the Google Play Store programme, the feature has been inspired by Instagram’s music feature.
Earlier, the Meta-owned app revamped the status updates section with a redesigned user interface, introducing a new "like-reaction" feature.
WhatsApp latest update for statuses
According to WABetaInfo, when uploading a status, WhatsApp users will find a new music icon at the top of the drawing editor. Tapping on this icon would allow users to search for their favourite songs, artists, or trending tracks.
Once the song is selected, users can choose a preferred part of the song, up to 15 seconds for image-based statuses or depending on the video clip length.
The selected song will appear alongside the main picture or video, and tapping on it will redirect viewers to the artist's Instagram profile.
Designed to enhance the convenience and user experience of the social media app, the music feature is currently in the beta phase, and available to limited testers.
It’s worth noting that Meta’s Threads also recently introduced the ability to add music to posts.
