WhatsApp is testing a new AI feature that allows Android users to create custom AI chatbots.

According to WABetaInfo, this feature is currently rolling out to select beta testers but will be available for more users in the coming weeks.

The new "Create an AI" feature uses Meta's AI Studio, which is the same platform for building bots on Messenger and Instagram.

How to create custom AI on WhatsApp?

  1. Open the "Create an AI" option (for beta users only).
  2. Write a prompt for the chatbot's purpose (1,000 characters max).
  3. Choose personality traits for your chatbot. There will be suggestions from WhatsApp, but users can also create their own.
  4. Choose or create an avatar image. Users can use a photo, or users can generate an image using text.
  5. WhatsApp will use the AI Studio to create the chatbot using the choices you made.

When ready, users can chat with the AI bot in a one-on-one conversation.

WhatsApp has not confirmed when users will be able to share their AI bots with other users.
