Imagine being able to create your own playlist on YouTube that perfectly matches your mood and preferences, without having to manually search for songs. Well, YouTube Music is bringing this to reality for its users by announcing a feature that utilises Artificial Intelligence (AI) and generates playlists based on the user’s descriptions.
What’s new?
A new feature is being tested in YouTube Music Premium, through which subscribers can create a custom playlist just with a description of the kind of music they want to listen to.
This feature on YouTube Music works through an input-based chat with AI that can generate playlists or by selecting them from a pre-defined choice of prompts, such as "Catchy pop choruses" or "Upbeat pop anthems".

This mirrors Spotify's AI-driven playlist generation, but the manner in which it is done in YouTube Music is way more conversational and friendly.
Shazam-Like feature
Besides AI playlists, YouTube Music also releases a feature that will become very familiar to many as it allows users to search for songs by singing, humming, or playing them out loud this feature is known as Shazam-Like feature that was first tested in 2022.
It allows users to identify songs using audio recognition, showing the name of the song, artist, and album. Now available on iOS and Android, it will merely require a tap from the new waveform icon in the search button.
How it works
Users of the service can generate AI playlists by opening the YouTube Music app and tapping on "search." Afterwards, they will select the chat UI icon. Then, users will be able to give a description of the kind of music they want to listen to—for instance, "upbeat workout music" or "relaxing instrumental tracks."

The AI algorithm on YouTube Music will, consequently, generate a playlist off that, which users can save and share.
Similarly, to use the Shazam-like feature, all users need to do is tap the waveform icon and start singing, humming, or playing whatever track runs around their brain head at a particular moment. The app will then attempt to recognize the song and let the user know what it is.
