In an effort to better represent how users find trending content, YouTube plans to redesign its Trending page and replace it with category-specific charts.

The platform claims that this modification will enable it to display a greater variety of user-relevant, well-liked content.

Change in YouTube's strategy

Trending music videos, weekly top podcast shows, and trending movie trailers will be included in the new charts; more categories will be added later.

YouTube decided to do away with the single trending list because the traditional format is no longer as effective, and a variety of fandoms and microtrends now influence trends.

YouTube wants to change the way people watch videos. Over the last five years, the platform has seen a decrease in visits to the Trending page as users increasingly find trending content through recommendations, search, and comments.

"We'll continue to show viewers the videos that we think they'll love through personalised recommendations, in addition to highlighting popular content in charts," the company said.

"In this manner, we can display a greater variety of well-liked and pertinent content, and it feels more organic to how viewers currently discover new videos."

YouTube supports creative individuals

YouTube will continue to offer resources to help content producers understand what appeals to their viewers.

The company said: "The Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio will continue to give creators personalised ideas to help them spot the next big thing for their channel."

"We're also developing new strategies to support and discover emerging creators, such as our "Hype" feature, which allows users to amplify new videos they enjoy."

Additionally, YouTube will use the "Creators on the Rise" feature to showcase up-and-coming creators on its official social media accounts and YouTube channel.

YouTube enters a new era

These modifications represent a substantial change in YouTube's strategy for promoting popular content and helping creators.

The platform seeks to give its users a more customised experience by implementing category-specific charts and personalised recommendations.

YouTube's new strategy is intended to support creators in thriving in the ever-evolving online video landscape.
