The initiative is a planned effort of the Go Cashless Economy Drive led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the State Bank of Pakistan, with a common goal of increasing the usage of secured and cashless payments through a digital payments ecosystem within Pakistan.
Using this campaign, aik by BankIslami will work towards making digital payments more available, inclusive and interest-free for Pakistanis, reflective of the bank’s standing in support of Shariah-compliant innovation.
Foremost, the campaign will be focused on empowering local merchants using aik QR as a digital payment solution that is fast and secure to use, including the ability to process instant payments from customers.
Customers will be able to scan the aik QR code and simply pay using their cell phones without dealing with cash. BankIslami’s aik Chief Officer Ashfaque Ahmed, stated: “This drive is about digitising everyday commerce right where local entrepreneurs serve their customers.”
“With this QR payment feature, merchants can accept secure digital payments in seconds, while customers enjoy a Shariah-compliant and cashless experience that aligns with Pakistan’s national vision,” Ahmed added.
To incentivise adoption of digital cashless payments, there will be a 50% cashback incentive for both aik and BankIslami users and then 30% for customers using banks other than BankIslami upon terms and conditions.
