Alibaba has launched a new AI chatbot on Thursday as part of its growing push into consumer technology.
The new chatbot, powered by its new Qwen3 models, was integrated into the company’s Quark app, a new AI-driven application that, although initially a browser, has been positioned as Alibaba’s main consumer application
The bot is free and allows users to chat using either text or voice, with real-time answers, insights, and digital assistance.
According to Alibaba, the bot refines reasoning, understanding, and execution, bringing its performance closer to that of global AI tools (e.g., Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT).
Most of Alibaba’s AI innovation has been focused on enterprise users through its cloud division until now; the release manifests that the company means to reach everyday consumers, which has been absent from their pushes into AI.
Alibaba's first entrance into AI for consumers was through their introduction of the Tongyi AI assistant app in 2023; however, the app never gained traction, with 6.96 million monthly users in September, as opposed to ByteDance's Doubao (150 million) and Tencent's AI tools (64.2 million).
Alibaba’s Quark AI Glasses
Alibaba also announced the launch of its Quark AI Glasses, available for pre-order on Tmall from Friday, priced at 4,699 yuan (around $660).
The smart glasses, first announced in July, combine AI and wearable tech, putting Alibaba in direct competition with Meta’s AI-powered devices.
