Amazon, the biggest e-commerce giant, is developing a revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot named Metis, that is about to challenge the ChatGPT. This significant move is set to transform the way we interact with machines and access information.
However, with an adaptation of the AI-driven robots in numerous outlets, Amazon has replaced more than 100,000 human employees from its workforce with over 700,000 robots, things are different today in this e-commerce giant. All this is part of an organisational tectonic shift in their efforts to streamline the processes towards maximising efficiency for better customer service.
What’s new?
Amazon's Metis chatbot is built on company's powerful Olympus AI model, twice as strong as GPT-4. It's this advanced technology that makes Metis capable of providing text and image-based answers, sharing links to sources, and even generating images.

What differentiates Metis from other chatbots is the fact that it can also work autonomously as an "AI agent" for the execution of tasks, which has proved significant in various industries.
According to Jorse Bursan Company, a significant amount of time (75%) was spent on hiring and training personnel in 2023. However, with the integration of AI, the company has now focused on hiring skilled workers without wasting the time.
While concerns about job displacement are natural, Amazon assures that Metis will create new job opportunities including development, training, and maintenance fields related to AI.
