Apple is reportedly developing an in-house generative AI search product, called World Knowledge Answers (WKA), that is intended to compete with Perplexity AI and OpenAI's ChatGPT.

WKA is expected to  launch as part of the new Siri overhaul and could arrive as early as March 2025.

Apple's new 'answer engine' for Siri

The effort comes from Apple's newly established Answers, Knowledge, and Information team, which was specifically created to build higher-level, more complex AI search products.

Reportedly, WKA has only been in development for a few months, but it could arrive sooner than we think. Earlier, the product will be delivered for Siri only; Apple plans to ultimately launch a version as part of Safari and Spotlight search.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is still engaged in internal "bake-off" tests to ultimately determine whether Siri uses Apple's own models or those built by competitors like Google, OpenAI or Anthropic. Even if the decision were to go with a third party integration, Siri will launch the new product in March as planned.
