Around a decade after suspension, direct flights from Karachi to Dhaka will soon commence as Bangladesh has issued approval.
Following a prolonged hiatus, the restoration of aviation connectivity between the two cities marks a groundbreaking milestone for both countries, which is believed to be a stepping stone for economic prosperity and stronger trade ties between the two South Asian nations.
Having secured approval to schedule and operate flights on the aforementioned route, PIA will be required to appoint a local General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh ahead of initiating flight operations, The News reported while citing Muhammad Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, the chairperson of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
Following the successful appointment of a GSA, expected soon, the provision of slots and frequencies will be specified by the national flag carrier accordingly.
The last flights between the two cities in question were conducted nearly 10 years ago in February 2015 by PIA, the country's national airline, before coming to a standstill due to escalating tensions with Bangladeshi authorities.
