
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has welcomed the Competition Commission of Pakistan’s (CCP) decision to grant approval for its acquisition of Telenor Pakistan, marking the successful conclusion of Phase II of the review process.
“PTCL is grateful to the Commission for its rigorous and transparent review, which safeguards the long-term sustainability and outlook of Pakistan’s telecom sector,” the company said in its statement. “We also thank our customers, partners, and the wider telecom community who have been eagerly anticipating this historic development.”
PTCL stated that it provided full cooperation to the CCP throughout the 18-month review process and reiterated its dedication to moving the acquisition forward - in accordance with the direction of all regulatory bodies and the laws of Pakistan.
The company stated that the intra-sector consolidation is an important step for the country's telecommunications industry.
By leveraging the strength of Ufone (PTML) and Telenor Pakistan, the merged entity plans to deliver best-in-class customer experience, improved network coverage, and exciting new digital services.
PTCL further stated that the merger will help create efficiency, build stronger infrastructure, and create a more competitive environment in Pakistan's telecommunications sector.
The company added that the combined entity will play an important role in increasing access to connectivity throughout the nation, encouraging digital innovation, and supporting the government's vision for a "digitally empowered Pakistan."
