CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has officially moved its next Cyberpunk game, Cyberpunk 2, into preproduction.

The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 had previously been in the conceptual phase and is now under early development as per CDPR’s latest earnings report.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action role-playing game set in the future in a dystopian world, filled with cyber-enhanced humans, high-tech gadgets, and crime-riddled streets.

The new sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, is confirmed by CDPR to be "the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe."

While “Cyberpunk 2” is not the final title of the game, it is how they are referring to the sequel internally. CDPR’s senior PR manager Ola Sondej has confirmed that it is merely a placeholder.

As of April 30, 2023, there were 96 developers working on the game, meaning the project is gaining steam, although the company is not yet ready to share a release date.

This update came alongside other major announcements. CDPR revealed that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty — the game’s expansion — has sold over 10 million copies.

The Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes both the base game and expansion, will be available for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.

Fans of CDPR have more to celebrate. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt recently marked its 10th anniversary, and the studio confirmed it has sold over 60 million copies.
