Dubai has introduced artificial intelligence (AI)- powered noise radars across the city to monitor vehicles that create excessive noise. The system operates like traffic cameras but employs AI that can detect the honking of loud horns, the use of modified exhausts, and high-volume music, all growing concerns in urban centres.
This new radar technology helps authorities implement rules aimed at minimising noise pollution, ensuring better road discipline.
According to Dubai Police, the AI-enabled radars automatically flag vehicles that exceed the permitted noise limits. The smart system identifies the source of noise, records evidence, and instantly logs the violation.
Authorities say it will target both everyday motorists and those who modify their cars to produce higher sound levels. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s wider plan to adopt smart-city tools.
Strict penalties will be imposed on drivers who violate noise rules. Police said that the violators will be fined AED 2,000 (approxi. Rs152,845), along with 12 black points on their licence.
To understand this term, lack points in the UAE's traffic system are penalty marks, and if one gets a total of 24 points, their licence is suspended.
Authorities have urged all motorists driving in the UAE to follow noise regulations and avoid modifications that amplify engine sounds. Dubai Police warned that action will be taken against anyone violating the new rules.
